Gout

Gout is a disease caused by abnormalities in uric acid metabolism. Symptoms and characteristics include:

1. Acute joint inflammation: The typical symptom of gout is acute joint inflammation, which is common in the big toe joint. Other joints such as knees, ankle joints, and finger joints may also be affected. The pain comes on suddenly, is severe and persistent, and is accompanied by redness, swelling, warmth, and limited joint function.

2. Tophi formation: Long-term excessive uric acid can cause uric acid crystals to deposit around joints to form tophi, which are common in earlobes, joint soft tissues and other parts. Granular hard lumps can be felt when touched.

3. Urate crystal deposition: Urate crystals can also be deposited in other tissues, causing complications such as gouty nephropathy and urethral stones.

4. Recurrent attacks: Gout usually presents with repeated attacks, with no symptoms in the intermittent period, but it is easy to have another acute attack after changes in diet or lifestyle habits.

5. Most common areas: Gout is most common in the big toe joint, and about 80% of first attacks occur in this area, but it can also affect other joints and soft tissues. In addition, gout can cause complications in other organs such as the kidneys and cardiovascular system.

The symptoms and characteristics of gout include acute joint inflammation, tophi formation, urate crystal deposition, repeated attacks, etc. The prone site is mainly the big toe joint, but it can also involve other joints and organs.
